Ending the year with... ground cover

I covered the embankments in kitchen rags soaked in a mixture of white glue and water. It's a cheap and effective way to shape the contours of the landscape. After sufficient drying time, I painted the ground in a mixture of black and brown. To be covered in the New Year with all sorts of materials from Woodland Scenics and of other brands.

Ballasting the standard gauge track

I ballasted the 30 cm long standard gauge track that acts as visual blockage on the right hand side of the Feldbahn Klieben micro layout. I wanted a clear visual difference of the standard and narrow gauge track beds. I therefore mixed fine Woodland Scenics ballast, 4 parts of grey and 1 part of light grey for the standard gauge track. I am pleased with the appearance and think of a similar mixture for the Elmslohe layout.

As next step I want to tackle the embankment.

Multitasking

Finally scenery..

I am working on a couple of projects in parallel as all involve painting. By that ensuring that drying time does not become down time.

First of all, my workers deserve a shelter and warm, dry place for their coffee breaks. On the Feldbahn Klieben this is quite a basic brick building that serves its purpose already for many years. The limited investment strategy of the owner of the extensive narrow gauge network is also visible in the tools and maintenance materials shed. A retired boxcar could be acquired cheaply and was transformed into a shed.

Also, the standard gauge bridge was weathered.
