"DEELDER STAAL" progress

The roof is on and the overall impression of the new industry "Deelder Staal" is very good. Now the detailing: equalizing the groundworks, rainpipes, bit more weathering, roof details, painting the door handle, factory sign.

The industry will get signage inspired by the old Sparta logo - if all works out as planned :)

Progress on new industrial facade

Some images of the new industrial facade which will ultimately represent the backside of fictional "DEELDER STAAL BV". The background and roofing are the next things to tackle.

Deelder Staal was constructed of Slater brickstone walls painted with Humbrol No. 70 and Humbrol No. 140 thinned 50/50 for the spaces between the stones. The emergency door was painted with Humbrol No. 25. Lots of Evergreen strips were used in different sizes applied with Kristal Klear, the wonderweapon of glues. The building is 36.5 cm wide and 2 cm deep.

The new facade is longer than the old, yellow one with much finer brick work. The overall impression should be much better once the roof is on and with the backwall applied and painted.

Note that the ground is not equalized yet, hence the gaps which will disappear once the building is finished and put in the correct spot.

Prototype: the building is inspired by typical Dutch industrial buildings like they can, for example, be found in Rotterdam. See some inspirational images below.

Background details and a VW T1

The new facade adding more interest to the background left to the existing warehouse.

The facade was constructed using a weathered Vollmer brickstone wall (N scale), Auhagen industrial door, Evergreen strips for the roofing and various left over materials.

Also just new in Valkenveld is this neat Volkwagen T1 of "P.Breedijk, Motorhuis SAFE". This is another exclusive, limited edition model of Modeltreinexpress, Vlaardingen in a cooperation with Brekina (art. no. 931022)

Valkenveld at EUROSPOOR 2018 in Utrecht

Valkenveld will be exhibited for the second time at the model railroad event EUROSPOOR. The 2018 edition will be held 9-11 November in Utrecht. As in the previous outing, my Inglenook-style layout will be linked to modules of friend Marco ("Looseinde") and Jasiu (“Ergernisse”).

I am currently working on some changes to the layout which I hope will improve the backdrop impression a lot. The yellow brick-stone building will be replaced by a self-made industry building in a typical 1960s style with red brick-stones. The building will be longer than the current one and hide the blue sky backdrop better. Another façade of an industrial building will be added to the left of the warehouse. Images to follow soon.

My son switches in Valkenveld with German Bundesbahn rolling stock. At EUROSPOOR, we will feature of course Dutch NS period III material.

By the time of EUROSPOOR the yellow building will be replaced with a finer 1960s style factory building. Also, a new building facade can be seen here beside the V 36 switcher, left to the warehouse.
