Prototype: short freight with Rh 2067 and Güterzugbegleitwagen
I found this image of a Rh 2067 pulling a short freight and caboose in an old copy of "Schienenverkehr Aktuell". This type of caboose has just recently joined my fleet, the 2067 wears a later colour scheme though.

New showcase
| A year ago, on 18 April 2015, I started my H0 journey in addition to my N scale railroading projects. It all started with an NS 2200 from Roco. In the meantime, my small layout Valkenveld is pretty advanced. To celebrate the occassion I treated myself to a showcase (ordered from "Showvitrines"). The shown "test filling" consists of a very diverse mix of old and new models: the two bottom rows contain roughly 30 year old analog N models, an ÖBB 1044 and BR 03, both from Roco; the 4th row from the top digital N models representating motive power that runs or has run in The Netherlands (from Brawa, Kato and Piko), the third row from top an N scale NS 2200 from Piko and the top two rows H0 material including a Roco NS 2200. |

Corner project: a side building to the silos of "Hoekstra's Oliefabrieken"
I finished another small project, the facade of a factory building belonging to the silo area. The facade has an important role in closing off the left hand corner of the layout. The model is constructed of various Auhagen factory elements and other bits and pieces with individual touches with regards to colouring, roofing, etc.
The (fictional) history is that the silos and the side building are part of Hoekstra's Oliefabrieken. With "Hoekstra" being a funny reference to the corner placement of the factory and the similarity to Twijnstra's Oliefabriek N.V. in Maarssen (see my earlier entry).

Fellow modelrailroader and co-exhibitor Marco made some beautiful shots of Valkenveld and his own module at the show of the Modelbouwvereniging Hilversum. See also his photostream on flickr for more of his work.

Backdrop trees
Showing Valkenveld for the first time at the Modelbouwvereniging Hilversum was great fun and with all the positive comments an encouraging experience. I will post a few images as soon as I will have time for it.
However, it was also a clear reminder that I want to continue with the still unfinished sections, mainly the backdrop area with the trees on the left side and the factory half-relief buildings. Also with the silo area (a half-relief building and a proper paving). And of course further detailing and weathering.
Especially the blank "blue sky" began to irritate me. So trees next. Most of them will be covered by the huge silos in the front, but I still want to do a proper job with regards to detailing of the scenery. This will allow my to take tunnel-like shots between the silo and woods.
The wall and trees are not fixed to the layout yet. So please mind the gap! All will be properly glued in place and covered by shrubs and plants growing against the wall.
